14 pastry chefswill see if they have what it takes to outbake, outblend, and outbrulee the competition where the main focus is the Achilles heel of most chefs: desserts. Gail Simmons returns as the host of this highly competitive series showcasing the best of the best in the world of pastry arts. Once again joining the judges' panel as head judge is Johnny Iuzzini, one of the country’s most celebrated and innovative pastry chefs and Executive Pastry Chef at Restaurant Jean Georges. Hubert Keller, critically acclaimed chef as well as guest judge on Top Chef and finalist on Top Chef Masters, and Dannielle Kyrillos, entertaining expert and Contributing Editor of Food Republic will also serve as regular judges for the series.

From sultry cupcakes to sexy crème brulee, Sandra Lee, of the hit Food Network show Semi-Homemade Cooking, will bring guests into her nectarous sanctuary filled with sugary sensations, candy creations, caramel clusters and much more at this one and only late night dessert party. Just like the hostess herself, this night is always filled with arousing, decadent creations.

International Pastry Competition

October 1 – 4, 2011 New York City

Join us for our 2nd Annual StarChefs.com International Pastry Competition presented by PreGel. This year’s sweet showdown takes place at the 6th Annual StarChefs.com International Chefs Congress, October 1 – 4 in New York City.

A select group of 20 international and U.S. pastry chefs compete for the grand prize: a stage in a top pastry kitchen. The format we introduced at last year’s competition emphasizes courses of plated desserts, and it was designed to let the fine-dining restaurant pastry chef shine. This year will be no different. The competition focuses on elements critical to the execution of a well-rounded dessert menu: pre-dessert, plated dessert, bonbons, chocolate centerpiece, and entremets. No traditional showpieces to be had here!

The competitors make their pastry magic happen on the ICC Main Stage while Congress attendees look on. Bad boy Pastry Chef Johnny Iuzzini of Jean Georges in New York and a judge on "Top Chef: Just Desserts" will be the official Executive Pastry Chef of the competition; guest judges include Pierre Hermé, David Burke, François Payard, Claudia Fleming, Elizabeth Falkner, Ron Paprocki, Curtis Duffy and Jeffrey Steingarten of Vogue. Dishes are evaluated on presentation, execution, creativity, taste, and theme.
